Memphis Horns Join Cray
The famous Memphis Horns will be onboard for the 1999 Robert Cray Tour in support of his new Rycodisc album called "Take Your Shoes Off". The Memphis Horns have been Robert Cray choice for horn players since 1987 and the "Strong Persuader". More Tour info here.
Robert Cray Live at the Fillmore
San Francisco, Calif- After a week of rehearsals in San Rafael, Robert Cray and his band along with the Memphis Horns performed at a benefit for the Earthjustice Defense Fund. This is Robert's 1st appearance since making the finishing touches on his new album. Also performing were Tracy Nelson and Charlie Musselwhite. The Fillmore was packed and Robert played for over two hours, including songs from his new "Take Your Shoes Off" on Rycodisc. I don't think the tour for this new album has officially started as I haven't seen any backstage passes or other promo photos, art-work etc. yet, and I'm still using my 1997 all access from the "Sweet Potato Pie". Look for Robert Cray's new album to be in stores by April 27th. After the Fillmore it was a plane ride to Dallas, TX for the Wildflower Festival in Richardson, just north of the city. China's "Heineken Beat 99" Cancelled
Widbey Island, WA - I Just got off the phone with Dave, Robert Cray's tour manager, Aka "Chain-Saw Dave", but thats another story you'll have to ask him about. I was relieved when Dave told me the show in China had been cancelled. I was looking forward to visting this beautiful country but after the US accidently bombed the embassy in Belgrade I was not so sure. The promoters for the "Heineken Beat 99" in Bejing said that Ritan Park, where the festival was to be held, is directly beside the US embassy, and was on high security alert. Also a part of the major audience is involed in the biggest demonstrations that China has ever seen in recent years. Their aim was to produce a cross cultural music event and they felt for the time being this could not be achieved. The promoters, for the event, are hoping to reschedule it this summer, sometime in the middle of July.
