Tube Factory Closes
Beijing, China - The factory in that produced the popular 12AX7AC and 7025STR tubes, has stopped production. They have decided to devote their resources to computer screens, energy efficient light bulbs and other electronic devices. They viewed the tube market as too small with not enough profit. Interestingly enough, these were the same arguments made by American companies like Phillips and GE. Tom McNeil of Magic Parts USA participated in many long hours of discussion with leaders of the Beijing factory, but nothing could be done to avoid the closing.

New 12AX7A Tube Production
Yugoslavia - Two new 12AX7A tubes are just now coming on the market. The first is an improved version of the 12AX7 tube made in Yugoslavia. After many hours of testing tubes the EL factory, has developed a much quieter version of their 12AX7 tube. It still has the same gain and punch as the Chinese 12AX7 but with lower microphonics and a bit softer sound.

The second tube is a new 12AX7 from the Tesla factory. This tube has extremely low microphonics and is a great choice for the demanding first stage of high gain guitar amps.

As of this printing, the Russian 12AX7WB is not available. There is a limited supply of the Russian 12AX7WXT+, although the performance of this tube is very uneven. Some have good characteristics on at least one side of the dual triode, while others are very weak and unbalanced.
