Where's the Real Memphis Horns?
You can count the number of shows left on one hand, as we wind down to the end of another Tour. The Riverside Blues Festival was held at the Anchor Inn on the Missouri River. For this show, we air freighted all the backline to Omaha, Nebraska.
Except for some DAMAGED!! Equipment, aircraft flying overhead, generators that won't calibrate, and a biker bar for a dressing room, this was an OK gig. We flew home right away.
Next 2 shows were The Catalyst in Santa Cruz and Wente Bros Winery in Livermore. The Catalyst smells like beer and bleach and the dressing rooms are closet size. The show is loud, hot, and sweaty. But Hey, We like these intimate club gigs, even though we were looking forward to the next gig in the cool wine country.
Wente Brothers Winery is a great place for a show. They provide good catering and nice dressing rooms. Oh Yes, and there's the Moon and Stars for a backdrop. Tomorrow we will be at the Oregon State Fair. Some of the crew flew home again.
The State Fair, in Salem Oregon, is close to where I live. This makes it easy, to go home and see my wife 1st, and then to the gig. I ran into old friends, as well as, the Father & Son team of Ed & Bo from EJD Concerts. Next stop Snowmass Colorado and a long travel day off through the mountains.
Well here we are at the Denver Airport, but where is our transportation to Snowmass? Oh! Shit! So we rent 2 vans and drive ourselves. No big deal, we know how to drive. After four hours of driving through the mountains and old mining towns of Colorado, we finally arrived at Snowmass. We were co-billed with Al Green. It was quite surprising to hear him announce the Memphis Horns. As we listened, it was obvious that this was not our dear friends, Wayne and Andrew, THE REAL MEMPHIS HORNS!! who had played on all those hits recorded at Stax Records.
Keep a close ear because you just might hear the real Memphis Horns, once again, on Robert's next album. By the way, Snowmass has no snow this time of year, but, they do have cute little chipmunks. Now for the good stuff. It's finally Autumn and the fall Salmon run is beginning on the Columbia. Wave if you see me out there.
