Model 401-A

Hugh sent this photo of his Starlite Model 401-A. The control panel reads: Magnatone, Estey, Torrence Calif., Model 401. This amp is quite interesting. It uses a step-up transformer in the 1st stage and half of a 20EZ7 twin triode for a preamp. The other half of the 20EZ7 makes the low frequency oscillator (LFO). The only controls are volume and tremolo intensity. The class "A" power amp section is handled by a 45B5/UL84 and an output transformer # 20-0114 (EIA code: 789-519) meaning the 19th week of 1965. It uses a Jensen 6-inch speaker (#306W28D1 stenciled on the cone) in an open-back cabinet. DC rectification is handled by an 36AM3-A. Original list price in 1964 was $59.95.
